acrylic paint on plywood?
I'm thinking of doing a painting on wood, and I realized how much preparation is required wood before and after painting. I'm confused about primer / gesso, varnish. I put in a varnish to seal the wood first, then apply primer, then my paint, varnish, and then another on top? and caulk the edges as well? Please help! thanks in advance.
Consider the possibility of masonite, which has an area of some canvas and imperfections less at random. As a rule, you want to use an acrylic varnish on the surface to seal in acids, oils, etc. that can bleed through and damage the work. 2 layers of sand with a light in the middle is a worthwhile precaution. Use this glaze on the rim, so it * should * be all that needs sealing. After the last coat varnish dries, lightly sand again and apply your cast [sanding creates a "tooth" that will allow the plaster stick to the glaze stain]. Gesso is essentially a marble floor acrylic base, so it does not seal well as it does because varnish is a bit porous in nature, so the paint sticks to it as well. A top coat of clear acrylic end after the paint is dry will allow the work to be cleaned more strongly in the future and protect the paint from external damage. Even professionals sometimes skip this step, based on the assumption that the painting itself is all but indestructible. But if you really want this job to last forever, is a good idea.
