English Victorian

English Victorian
Why do so many Americans think All English people speak with Posh victorian accents?

I’ve had many Americans say things like ‘Cheerio’, Living in London I honestly have never heard anybody say that, and if someone did, they would stand out like a Jew in a Mosque. Victorian stereotypes never die.

I realize that there are many different English accents, just like there are many different American accents.
I think Americans just automatically jump to the posh accent. Every time I’ve heard someone English attempt an American accent, they seem to go for a southern one. I don’t speak like that, but I don’t care if someone imitating an American does. A deep southern accent is probably easier than a Midwestern or Bronx accent.
