Indus Valley

Indus Valley
What did the Indus Valley people believe?

I have to write an essay to compare and contrast the religion of Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley. However, I do not know what the religion of the Indus Valley are. Are the Indians? Are they a polytheist? Thank you!

This is a very comprehensiive … From http://www.harappa.com/har/har0.html http://uk.encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761556839_2/Indus_Valley_Civilization.html # s8 has often been suggested that the kingdom of the Indus Valley civilization was a unified by priests and religious ideology rather than by kings and political coercion. However, objects apparently major religious uniformity are much less and produce less regularly in various Indus Valley sites that make the black-red-painted pottery, stone and bronze tools, and bricks. Clay figurines (possibly votive) of women elaborately combed and altars of fire with the amounts of clay in the ash-filled pits occur in only a few sites, bitumen-lined bath or reservoir increased (possibly for ritual immersion) is exclusive of Mohenjo-Daro. In the absence of worship in the temple (the temple is relatively late institution of India), religious expression might be involved shamanic experience and epiphanies suggested by the representations of masked men dressed in leaves of hunters, characters with long braids and feet of animals, woman-like figures in the trees, shamans or deities or surrounded by jungle animals. http://www.allabouthistory.org/indus-valley.htm of the Indus Valley culture seems to have had a primitive religious system. Moreover of a mother goddess who represents fertility, it is suggested that also loved the animals to some degree. One of these figures is a seal in a yoga session as the position and is believed to be an early representation of a Hindu god. It is difficult to find the names of the gods of the ancient Indus Valley. It seems that when their civilization died, but also their gods. and, finally, http://www.indianetzone.com/18/religion_indus_valley_civilization.htm (I am not able to copy and paste, but says that religion polytheistic seems)
