How can I clean a silk lampshade raw?
Eames I have a beautiful chandelier, and the shade is beige raw silk, dirty.I but generally do not want to wash as it can get water marks or cut or something. What to do? It's a vintage lamp and I think the person before me was a smoker, as I believe nicotine is everywhere.
I have several silk screens and here is how to clean them. First, use the brush to suck out any dirt, dust and hair that has accumulated in the shade. You can not use any product that is based liquid or you will get marks water. If the shadow is small enough, you can put in a bag of salt and use it to wash the shade, generally clean and leave the bag for a couple of days to absorb odors and dust. If it is too large, you can use dry carpet cleaning granules, as facts to be resolved, capture technology, or Chem-Dry. Shake Carefully dry cleaning granules in the shade, being careful not to snag the natural texture of silk. Use a large box to capture the excess granules or do double duty, like me, and do the carpet or upholstery, which also require cleaning. If you do the latter, stir, then let it dry on the carpet or upholstery and vacuum up.
